<p>Academic Counseling<br>
Academic counseling is an important tool which assists the students to incorporate in the university environment and helps in achieving higher academic performance. It is essential in realizing the university education objectives of encouraging the student’s talents with due consideration given to the development of academic, psychological and social elements.</p>
<p>The role of the academic advisor</p>
<p>The main purpose from having an academic advisor is to guide the student and to give necessary consultation regarding the selection of the most suitable curriculums according to the adopted academic plan. Moreover, advisor will assist the student to overcome any difficulties which may arise during the path of study and to extend any necessary advice the student may need.<br>

<p>The role of the student</p>
<p>The student has an essential role in the academic counseling since studying progress is his/her own responsibility. The student shall seek the guidance of the academic advisor to assist him/her regarding the selection of appropriate study program, path and schedule. This will eventually help in achieving goals of the student during the university study and work’s ambition thereafter. To achieve this purpose the student shall follow the following steps:<br>
Know the details of the academic calendar and the essential timing of registration, curriculum addition/omission, withdrawal from course, excuse …..etc. Also, the student shall know the academic advisor and office working hours.<br>
Meet the academic advisor to discuss academic and professional objectives, study program, and any other point which may need to be clarified by the academic advisor. <br>
Review with the academic advisor the form of curriculum addition/deletion before being approved by the department of Student Affairs.<br>
Students of slow progress shall see the academic advisor on regular basis for follow-up purposes.<br>
Follow and carry out the recommendations of the academic advisor with restrict adherence to the time table of meeting with him/her.<br>
Report to the academic advisor of any changes that may affect the program or study schedule.<br>

<p>Failing students</p>
<p>A failing student is the student who fails in passing one or more than one course. He or she is allowed to register in the study program which ensures passing in at least twelve semesters.</p>
<p>The female section of academic counseling unit has specific plans to follow up the failing female students. There are two kinds of failing students:</p>
<p>Student who obtains 2.75 or less GPA (cumulative grade point average).<br>
Student who fails in passing program’s courses.<br>
A plan for GPA failing student:</p>

<p>Academic advisor will meet the student to discuss causes of failing.<br>
The student will be asked a number of questions and accordingly will be advised. To avoid embarrassing the student, the advisor will enter the necessary remarks in the form of the failing student.</p>
<p>During the meeting the advisor shall note the curriculums in which the student failed and make contact with the concerned faculty for reasons of follow up. The advisor will also assist the student in organizing her time and laying out a schedule for lesson review. <br>
The failing student shall prepare a list of the curriculum she failed and submit it to the curriculum club of the Activity Unit, so that necessary assistance may be extended.<br>
Most essential of all is the constant follow up by the advisor and to meet the student at least once in a week.<br>
If the student fails to respond to the advisor’s guidance, the case will be reported to the Academic Counseling Unit, which in turn report the matter to the college principal.<br>

<p>The role of social and psychological advisor:<br>
The advisor shall arrange a workshop to clarify her role in the guiding process. She may also explain the service of loans and aids which will be provided to the students who have special conditions by using special form for this purpose (to be distributed to the college students). </p>
